Astronomer Jason Kendall and artist Katja Aglert lit up yesterday's City section with a feature story about their efforts to turn down the city lights and turn up the sky above. 

Jason Kendall, an amateur astronomer, and Katja Aglert, a Swedish installation artist, want to turn out the lights in different parts of Manhattan and, weather permitting, illuminate the night sky.
“How can you appreciate something you’ve never seen?” said Mr. Kendall, 41. “You’ll never get anyone to make the sky dark until you show them how beautiful it can be.”

Calling All Washington Heights Yoginis: Get Your Yoga on at New Studio

The Heights in getting a new yoga studio this month. According to InwoodKids, owner Alyssa Snow says that MindBodySoul Yoga Studio is slated to open its doors on Fort Washington Avenue and 170th Street on March 17, and will be offering group and private yoga classes as well as acupuncture services. 

The studio is offering a discounted introductory package and discount for student and hospital employees. Classes include kundalini, vinyasa, hatha and kids yoga on Saturdays. Alyssa says she will be open to Mommy and Me classes during the week if there is interest.

Gotta Be In It To Win It -- Heights Man Wins L-O-T-T-O

Loved this story about Lucky Joselito Dilone, a construction workers who lost his job of 16 years last year when his firm closed shop. Last month, on Christmas Eve, Dilone decided to buy a scratch-off ticket on a whim while buying his usual WIN tickets. He won $5 on the scratch-off and decided to buy another. The result? A jackpot of $2,000 a week for life. 

Dilone lives in Washington Heights and has two step-children (not sure from the story if he is married as well). He will soon receive his first payment of $40,000 followed by quarterly payments of $26,000 ($16,711 after taxes) every year, the equivalent of a $104,000 salary each year. 

So, the big question on my mind is, of course, will he ever work again? According to the shopkeeper that sold him the winning ticket, "He said, 'No, I still have to work.'"

A Little Word Art -- Wahi Style

Gretchen Rubin over at The Happiness Project tuned me onto Wordle, a cool application that basically creates word art based on information you povide the site. I plugged in The Streets Where We Live and got a good chuckle at the words that got more or less space on the chart.
